Slowdown in New Account Procedure
If you are applying for a user account you might notice things seem stalled out. Please have patience. We have gone to manual approval because certain groups of people have opened dozens of user accounts (if not 100's), which we think does not serve what we are doing.
I believe their reasoning might be that leaving links in "tell us about yourself" would help the search ratings of the sites that they link to. (Now I have set a "no-crawl" attribute on all links, so none will be counted.) Maybe they get some money for this. For instance, in the last 30 days we have 621 visits from the Philippines. Are there that many "Advaita-ists" there? Or are the few dollars they might get for a days work establishing links, worth the effort to them? I am not that much against links, only against multiple user accounts.
WE MAY INADVERTENTLY DELETE YOUR REAL ACCOUNT. Again please have patience with us and apply for a new one when this thing gets solved. THANKS. Please leave a comment.
I've never had more than one account at any virtual oasis that I visited, so I'll ask this question from the standpoint of blissful ignorance:
what adverse/harmful affect do multiple accounts have on Never Not Here?
I'm reminded of the old adage, "no harm, no foul".
Can someone point out the harm that multiple accounts have on NNH?
TIA.
I agree with you Richard. I`ve also noticed the problem and I`m glad that you took steps to solve it in this way. Thank you.
Love
Anna
Actually, These multiple account holders are kind of invisible, not posting or troubling anyone. They just want a page for web crawlers to find their links. No one else finds them because they are hidden in their user info.
BUT. . . What's the point of having a handful of users with 1000's of accounts and people interested in our subject matter holding only (one each) 100's of accounts?
Besides I only get a certain amount of "Captcha Words" without paying more. They burn them all.
GUIDELINES FOR GETTING AN ACCOUNT.
Best is to use your name as a user ID, most of the false ones are fantasy names.
Write your real city etc. It is kind of obvious on these guys account applications.
Now I am asking to "tell a little bit about yourself" in the account request.
(It is pretty clear if you don't know anything on what we are talking about.)
Remember I don't care if everyone in the world has one account. And really I don't care about links, (but they do dilute our subject matter according to SEO studies if they are off-subject.) All I care about is if very few disinterested people clog the workings of our site so that those interested can't find what they want.
Thanks
Richard Miller
