The Myth of Enlightenment
First, I’ll pretend to know what I’m talking about.
Second, understand that Absolute Reality is all there Is.
Third, understand that enlightenment is realizing that This is It.
Fourth, understand that anything said about It is not it.
Now raise your gaze from the screen and look around you and see if you can that here It is no matter that It differs in appearance from what you may have heard or read various gurus and wisdom teachers say about it.
Enlightenment does not necessarily equate with eternal bliss, does not make me smarter or more aware, does not immunize me from illness and death, does not ensure financial stability, does not make me psychologically healthy, nor does it help me make friends and live a rich and rewarding non-strife life.
Look up from the screen again, look around, feel the body’s tension or ease, smell the scent of the room or outdoors, hear the silence in your head or the noise from the outside, taste the staleness or freshness of your breath. This Is It despite the appearance of it or how mind says it should be.
In the end, as in the beginning, there is no enlightenment, there is only This. And the seeing, tasting, smelling, feeling, hearing It . . . Being It. After all, not-being is not really an option while manifested as human being?
On the other hand, in using “myth” have I overreacted? Have I made a mountain out of a mole hill? Perhaps it’s all just a minor misunderstanding among monkey minds? If so, and in the spirit of good will, let’s pretend I’m entirely wrong about this and you’re entirely right, whoever you Are?
